Where can you find the fastest Internet?
The U.S. is not known for its fast Internet speeds -- South Korea is No. 1, and we're way down at No. 28 -- but since we're here, we might as well know which states provide the speediest Internet. A recent survey by the Communication Workers of America revealed that to get the best Internet speeds here, you'll have to move. To Delaware.
Our tech blog lists the 15 U.S. states with the fastest broadband speeds, and it looks like smaller equals better: Delaware, Rhode Island and New Jersey are the top three.
California is down at No. 11, which isn't terrible, but isn't great for the home of Silicon Valley. Our average download speed came in at 6.64 megabits per second.
But that's just an average. Can you beat it? I can. According to SpeedTest.net, my download speed at home -- using cable Internet in Echo Park -- is 21.45 mbps. That's right up there with top-speed South Korea.
To check your own download speed, just go to SpeedTest.net and click to test -- it's free and takes just a few seconds. The site's numbers aren't exactly the same as the CWA's -- it says California's average is slightly higher, 7.13 mbps -- but it does give you a sense of the comparative speed your Internet provider is providing.
And it may reassure you that you don't have to move to Delaware.
