Marilyn Monroe caught smoking a joint on film?
A silent 8mm film of Marilyn Monroe allegedly smoking a joint has surfaced on the Internet. Shot in a home in New Jersey in 1958 or '59 (based on how the actress looked at the time) she is passed what is said to be a "reefer" by a friend and takes a drag. She giggles and sniffs her armpit, giggles some more, then the film runs out.
As to the matter of what was really in those rolling papers, the filmmaker, a friend of the late actress who prefers to remain nameless, said "I got [the pot]. It was mine. It was just passed around. It was not a party. It was just a get-together. You know, come over and hang out."

It looks like a cigarette! And recall that back then it wasn't unusual to roll your own cigarettes. She sure didn't smoke it like a joint. Too fast and casual. She barely took a drag which makes me think it was a cigarette and not a joint.

All I have to say is, so what? Big deal, it's not an issue.

Whoever thinks this is Marilyn Monroe smoking a joint has been smoking too much wacky tobacky. That is clearly a cigarette and I can't for the life of me see how she is "sniffing her armpit." This is nonsense.

For years, access to the images of Marilyn Monroe had been restricted by CMG, the licensing agent for MMLLC - Monroe's estate.
On March 17, 2008, United States District Court, Central District of California held that CMG and MMLLC do not own the Rights of Publicity for Marilyn Monroe.
September 2, 2008, in a separate but related case involving The Sam Shaw Family, confirmed the California ruling-Marilyn Monroe's estate cannot claim post-mortem publicity rights because she died before the enactment of the statute that created them in California.
The fees and royalties paid by businesses, galleries, and commercials to CMG for the last 20 years is in the tens of millions.

For those of you writing in to say "That's a cigarette, not pot" --did you read the part where the woman who shot the film SAID it was pot and that she herself purchased it?
Choose to take her word for it or not, I'd sooner put my trust there than with someone who wasn't there (but who does have an Internet connection!) making a call on what is or is not between the rolling papers. Like you'd know... get real.

She holds it, but not long. Clearly not a cigarette; clearly she's not a big user. I'm sorry, but is this some astonishing revelation?

She sure was beautiful; and the woman on the right side of the video - Rosie O'Donald has not changed much.

It has long been known that MM was a casual drug user...What is surprising is that the film has remained undergournd, like the film of the Governator smoking pot...

Watching this short clip is kinda' like a trip back in time. She is sooooo beautiful and really smiley & happy while gettin' stoned with friends. Made me happy and sad at the same time. Does anyone read lips? I would love to know what she's saying into the camera towards the end of the clip.
"Marilyn, I would have liked to have know you ..."
