Today in culinary prophecy: L.A.'s food trucks get a lot of their own
Give Brand X associate editor Krista Simmons a gold star for her culinary prophecy: In last week's year-end print edition of Brand X, Krista predicted food trends that will hit Los Angeles in 2010, including her item about "stop motion eating." Here's what she wrote:
Similar to the mobile food courts in Portland, Ore., food trucks will start parking in scouted areas. Look at the hunter-gatherers: There's only so long people will continue to chase their food. Kogi has had a successful residency at the Alibi, and the Ilan Hall's Ketel One Canteen is staying put just off the Cahuenga corridor. Standard taco trucks have a target location, and soon some of these mobiles may start scouting havens from ticketing law enforcement.
And it took exactly -- drum roll, please -- four days before Krista was proven correct! According to LAist, the Santa Monica Food Truck Lot (think of it as a movable feast that's put down roots) is launching today with a dozen eateries on wheels making the scene in an empty lot on 14th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.
Seems like a great idea to us and besides, that area has been pretty barren of places to eat for like forever. If you want, you can follow the Santa Monica Food Truck Lot on Twitter.

I hope they pick another lot in Hollywood, love to have a Portland-style mobile food court. I've never liked the lunch options here
